K-pop super band BTS has topped Billboard's Hot 100 chart for the second consecutive week.
This is according to Billboard's Sept. 8 article "BTS' 'Dynamite' No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100 for Second Week."
The Hot 100 is the main chart of the U.S.-based music media outlet that ranks singles based on streaming, radio airplay and sales data. BTS is the first Korean act to top the chart.
Nielsen Music Data said "Dynamite" was streamed 17.5 million times in the U.S. and sold 182,000 downloads in its second week. The hit is the first song in four years to exceed 180,000 downloads in its second week since "Closer" by the American e-music duo Chainsmokers in September 2016.
BLACKPINK has set a K-pop milestone as its single "Ice Cream" featuring American singer Selena Gomez debuted at No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, the highest ascent by a Korean girl group on an American chart. (Screen capture from song's music video)
BLACKPINK also made K-pop history as its latest single "Ice Cream" featuring American singer Selena Gomez debuted at No. 13 on the same chart, the highest spot by a K-pop girl group on an American chart.
Billboard said BLACKPINK is the first girl group to have three consecutive top 40 hits since Fifth Harmony of the U.S., which had four straight from 2015-16.
The group's "How You Like That" released in June reached No. 33 on the chart, and "Sour Candy," a collaborative work with Lady GaGa released in May, got to No. 40.
The music video of "How You Like That" on Sept. 8 became the fastest K-pop clip to reach 500 million views on YouTube.
BLACKPINK is also scheduled to release on Oct. 2 its first studio album "The Album" featuring the singles "How You Like That" and "Ice Cream."
