The demonstration team of World Taekwondo (WT), the martial art's global governing body, has advanced to the finals of "America's Got Talent" (AGT), a popular U.S. reality competition show on NBC.
WT said the semifinal results on Sept. 2 showed that the team earned a save from the judges to advance to the finals along with three teams with the most public votes and one team with the most live show performance votes.
This performance showcased impressive moves and choreography under the theme of overcoming natural disaster and adversity.
Three of the team members received kudos for consecutively breaking wooden boards with kicks while blindfolded.
After a three-minute performance of board smashing and gravity-defying kicks, the act ended with the kicking open of three banners in mid-air that read "Goodwill," "Cooperation" and "Service."
Judge Heidi Klum gushed over the performance, saying, "You guys are like real action heroes," adding, "When you think 'Could it get repetitive,' no, it never does. You always top it, you bring something else. This time you brought the blindfolds and it was incredible."
Judge Howie Mandel said, "This was the best act of the night," adding, "This was something I could watch for two hours straight."
After the second week of semifinal performances, the second group of five teams will join the first group of five in the finals on Sept. 14.
The grand prize is USD 1 million (KRW 1.16 billion).
