The original Korean series "Squid Game" is the "biggest series at launch" in Netflix history.

Netflix on Oct. 12 tweeted that 111 million people worldwide have seen "Squid Game."

CNN of the U.S. also said the series "has been viewed by 111 million accounts since debuting on Netflix September 17," making it the streaming service's "biggest-ever series at launch."

The previous record holder was "Bridgerton," a British romance drama that surpassed 82 million viewers in its first 28 days.

The nine-episode "Squid Game" has topped Netflix's top 10 lists in 94 countries and is the first Netflix serial not in English to remain at No. 1 in the U.S. for 21 straight days.

As of July, Netflix has an estimated 209 million paid memberships, and "Squid Game" is available for streaming in 190 countries.

Kim Min-young, Netflix vice president of content for Asia Pacific (excluding India), told CNN, "When we first started investing in Korean series and films in 2015, we knew we wanted to make world-class stories for the core K-content fans across Asia and the world."

"Today, 'Squid Game' has broken through beyond our wildest dreams."
