The Korea Federation of Content Creators (KFCC) on Nov. 8 was launched as a corporation to support the creation and export of Hallyu (Korean Wave) content.
Registered as a non-profit organization under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the federation is joined by multi-channel network (MCN) companies to which YouTubers belong, individual YouTubers, content creation studios, media outlets and exhibition companies. Four organizations including the Korea International Trade Association and the Seoul COEX will also participate as "special" members.
Song Jae-yong, CEO of the MCN company Treasure Hunter, was appointed the federation's first chair.
"The KFCC was launched to foster Asia-centric festivals, which remain less influential than VidCon, the world's largest festival for creators," he said. "Korea has accepted the Hollywood production system, but Chungmuro (a Seoul district considered the traditional hub of the Korean movie industry) still has an independent system. Thus the KFCC will start in Seoul and expand to Asia and make a difference."
On Dec. 14 at the Seoul COEX in the city's Gangnam-gu District, the KFCC will hold a launching ceremony and its inaugural conference and awards ceremony to view the future of content creation. Afterwards, other events in cooperation with related government organizations such as the ministry will be held to support content creation and promote a contest for Korean cultural content.
In line with the trend of rapidly expanding the media ecosystem to the metaverse by combining it with virtual reality technology, the federation pledged to pour efforts into educating creators. It will provide customized services to content consumers through a creator analysis system based on big data as well as support infrastructure for content output.
KFCC Secretary-general Lee Sang-won said, "The KFCC will create a venue not only for content creators but also bring them together with their fans and brands," adding, "We will also serve as a bridge to introduce foreign content creators to Korea and help domestic ones advance abroad."
