"Squid Game" actor Lee Jung-jae has added another trophy to his collection, namely one from the Film Independent Spirit Awards of the U.S.

At the ceremony for the 37th edition of the awards in Santa Monica, California, on March 6, Lee won Best Male Performance in a Scripted Series.

Launched in 1984, the awards honor indie cinema and are known as the Academy Awards of American independent films.

Lee is the second straight Korean actor to win a Spirit Award, following Youn Yuh-jung, who earned hers last year for Best Supporting Actress in "Minari."

Lee said in a video message played at the ceremony, "Thank you for giving me this meaningful award," adding, "Thank you so much for loving 'Squid Game.'"

"I know what you are all curious about is when Season 2 will come out," he said, "It's on the way. Stay tuned."

On Feb. 27, Lee won the award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series from the Screen Actors Guild of the U.S.
