The music video of "Solo" by BLACKPINK's Jennie's has exceeded 800 million views on YouTube, while the performance video of fellow member Lisa has broken 500 million views.
YG Entertainment, the management agency of the K-pop girl group, on March 17 said that as of 3:24 a.m. that day, the "Solo" video hit 800 million views three years and four months after its release in November 2018. This was the most views by a female solo artist in K-pop history.
The song begins with beautiful musical chords in a simple melody line with straightforward and honest lyrics that describe a self-confident woman who refuses to wallow in sadness after a breakup. The music video has topped major charts abroad including the Worldwide iTunes Song Chart in 40 countries.
Fellow BLACKPINK member Lisa's performance video has also made K-pop history.
YG said her "exclusive performance video" for "Money" on March 15 at 11:28 p.m. broke 500 million views on YouTube.
The milestone came six months after the video's release on Sept. 24 last year to make it the fastest K-pop performance video to surpass 500 million views.
The song "Money" hit charts internationally after being used as background music in videos related to the Netflix smash series "Squid Game" on TikTok when the drama saw a surge in global popularity.
BLACKPINK has kept breaking records whenever the group or a member releases a new song. The quartet's official YouTube channel has 32 videos and 72.9 million subscribers, the most of any artist in the world.
