The nation's first branch of a global theme park chain, Legoland Korea Resort, will be opened on May 5 in Chuncheon, Gangwon-do Province, fittingly on the occasion of Children's Day.
This park will be the world's 10th Legoland opened since 1968 after those in Billund, Denmark; Windsor, England; Carlsbad, California; Gunsburg, Germany; Winter Haven, Florida; Johor Bahru, Malaysia; Dubai, the United Arab Emirates; Nagoya, Japan; and Goshen, New York.
Legoland is packed with rides and fun activities where children ages 2-12 can have fun with their families. The park in Chuncheon is the chain's first to be built on an island, specifically at the center of Uiam Lake covering 280,000 square m.
The park offers seven zones decorated with the most popular Lego series: Lego Castle, Bricktopia, Lego Ninja World, Pirate Sea, Miniland, Brick Street and Lego City. Forty rides are featured as well as Lego miniatures of Korea's leading landmarks like Gyeongbokgung Palace, National Assembly Building, N Seoul Tower and Haeundae Beach.
The resort is running a 100% reservation basis.
After the opening, the province will seek to build infrastructure and ensure coexistence with the park's surrounding community through expansion of tourist facilities in and around the lake to prepare for increased tourism demand.
A massive Lego replica of Gyeongbokgung Palace is displayed at Legoland Korea Resort in Chuncheon, Gangwon-do Province. (Legoland Korea Resort's Facebook page)
