An official poster of Netflix announces the confirmation of a second season for "Squid Game."
Netflix's original Korean drama "Squid Game," which started a global craze last year, is returning for a second season.
Netflix on June 13 confirmed that Season 2 of the smash drama is coming through a letter written by series creator and director Hwang Dong-hyuk saying, "A whole new round is coming."
"It took 12 years to bring the first season of 'Squid Game' to life last year. But it took 12 days for ‘Squid Game’ to become the most popular Netflix series ever," he added, thanking fans around the world for showing their love for the show.
"And now, Gi-hun (played by actor Lee Jung-jae) returns. The Front Man returns. Season 2 is coming. The man in the suit with ddakji might be back. You’ll also be introduced to Young-hee's boyfriend, Cheol-su."
Hwang concluded the letter by saying, "Join us once more for a whole new round."
Released on Sept. 17 last year, "Squid Game" was watched by over 140 million households worldwide within a month of its release, making it the most viewed Netflix original work of all time. O Yeong-su won Best Supporting Actor from the Golden Globes for his role, with castmate Lee earning a nomination for Best Actor.
At the Screen Actors Guild Awards, Lee won best male actor in a drama for his role and Jung Ho-yeon won the honor for best female actor in a drama.
"Squid Game" also claimed the award Breakthrough Series Over 40 Minutes at the Gotham Independent Film Awards of the U.S., a first for a Korean drama.
