The K-pop girl group BLACKPINK will appear at this year's MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) of the U.S.

MTV on Aug. 15 said the group will appear on the Aug. 28 awards show at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

Together with the Grammy, Billboard Music and American Music Awards, the VMAs are considered one of America's top honors in music.

Yonhap News on Aug. 16 quoted YG Entertainment, the group's management agency, as saying, "BLACKPINK (Jisoo, Jennie, Rose and Lisa) is preparing a special stage for this awards ceremony," adding, "The members and staff are doing their best to present meaningful moments to fans around the world."

BLACKPINK is the first K-pop girl group to appear at the VMAs, as well as the fourth female act overall to do so after TLC, Spice Girls and Fifth Harmony.

In 2020, BLACKPINK won the VMA for Song Of the Summer for "How You Like That" and is nominated for Best Metaverse Performance this year. Member Lisa was also nominated this year in the Best K-pop category for "Lalisa," the title track of her debut solo album.

Meanwhile, the group will resume its global activities with the Aug. 19 pre-release of its song "Pink Venom" before appearing at the VMAs.
