The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on Aug. 22 said it will host Hanbok Expo 2022 from Aug. 25-28 jointly with the Korean Craft and Design Foundation at the Seoul COEX in the capital's Gangnam-gu District.

Marking its fifth year, the event this year features 74 Hanbok makers and related companies offering discounts to visitors of an average 30% and up to 80%, as well as gift items including Hanbok accessories.

The exhibition "A Blue Story Permeates the Wind" (unofficial translation) is based on the legend of Lady Suro of the ancient Silla Kingdom (57 B.C.-A.D. 935), a leading character in hyangga, or old folk songs. On display are reinterpretations of the lady walking across the East Sea by 10 Hanbok designers.

The expo will also showcase Hanbok designs that earned awards at this year's Hanbok Design Project Contest, 30 school uniforms, 15 uniforms for the tourism and accommodation sectors, and about 160 traditional outfits.

Interactive events include one on making the vest baeja, which is worn on top of the jeogori (top), and another on the proper wearing of Hanbok.

Admission is KRW 5,000 but those who register in advance or wear a Hanbok to the event can enter for free. Registration is possible on the expo's official website through Aug. 28: www.2022hanbokexpo.com
