"Jeong-sun" has won received the Grand Jury Prize and Best Actress at the 17th Rome Film Fest.
At the awards ceremony on Oct. 22 at the Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone in Rome, the movie's director Jeong Ji-hye accepted the Grand Jury Prize and actor Kim Kum-soon, who played the protagonist, the Best Actress award.
"Jeong-sun" is about a woman victimized by digital sex crimes through illegally filmed footage leaks and how she regains her independence by overcoming hardship.
The movie was the only Korean work invited to the festival's Progressive Cinema Competition, a section with 16 nominees. Earlier in April this year, the film also won the Korean Competition at the 23rd Jeonju International Film Festival in Jeonju, Jeollabuk-do Province.
"Jeong-sun" was also invited to the section New Directors at the 70th San Sebastian International Film Festival in Spain and the First Feature Competition of the 66th British Film Institute's London Film Festival.
Earlier this month, Kim was also named Actress of the Year at the 27th Busan International Film Festival, which closed on Oct. 14.
Launched in 2006, the Rome event is considered one of Italy's two leading cinematic festivals along with the Venice International Film Festival.
