Global figure skating icon Kim Yuna has appeared wearing Hanbok on a giant electronic screen at Times Square in New York.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on Dec. 6 said along with the Korea Craft and Design Foundation (KCDF), it made a video featuring photos of Kim wearing Hanbok from the September issue of the French-British fashion magazine Marie Claire and displayed the video on Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. on the electronic billboard Broadway Plaza Digital at New York's Times Square.
Kim is shown in the video wearing Hanbok in unique colors and lines forming beautiful silhouettes, emphasizing traditional Korean beauty through the use of handicrafts like a white porcelain jar and the traditional tassel norigae.
Designated a Hallyu culture and arts figure this year, the former world and Olympic champion previously took part in Hanbok design development and photo shoots as part of the campaign "Hanbok Wave," which seeks to promote the appeal of the traditional attire worldwide and explore overseas markets for it.
The KCDF said the airing of the video showing Kim clad in Hanbok is "expected to contribute to the promotion and higher awareness of Hanbok by tourists from around the world."
