The film "Jung_E," featuring the late actor Kang Soo-yeon in her final role, has topped Netflix's global chart for four consecutive days of its release.
Flix Patrol, a website that ranks content on online streaming platforms worldwide, on Jan. 25 said the movie topped Netflix's film chart for four consecutive days since Jan. 21.
"Jung_E" was No. 1 on Jan. 21 in 31 countries, 41 the next day, 48 on Jan. 23 and 27 on Jan. 24.
Netflix's official weekly top 10, which the streaming site announces after calculating viewing hours, showed 19.3 million viewing hours for "Jung_E" in the third week of this month (Jan. 16-22), making it the most watched non-English film on the platform.
Set in the year 2194, the movie is about people who escape Earth, which has degenerated into a wasteland due to the climate crisis, and move to new shelters. The plot is about the development of advanced artificial intelligence (AI) for combat by cloning the brain of the legendary mercenary Jung-yi to end the civil war at a shelter.
Directed by Yeon Sang-ho, famous for "Train to Busan" (2016) and "Peninsula" (2020), "Jung_E" has attracted high interest both at home and abroad as the posthumous work of the late actor Kang, who plays Yun Seo-hyun, a team leader at a think tank for the development of combat AI.
