In a first for the domestic film sector, the action-movie trilogy "Roundup" has surpassed the 30 million mark in cumulative ticket sales.
The Korean Film Council's box office chart on July 10 said the third installment in the series, "The Roundup: No Way Out," surpassed 10,533,880 viewers as of July 9. This latest sequel is the first domestic movie to attract 10 million viewers since its predecessor "The Roundup" last year.
The first in the series, "The Outlaw," had 688,546 viewers and "The Roundup" 12,693,415, thus all three installments broke the 30 million mark.
Series star Ma Dong-seok, also known as Don Lee, thanked his fans in a video posted on his Instagram account. In the video, he made a large heart shape with his arms and said, "I sincerely appreciate all of our 30 million fans."
The trilogy's protagonist Det. Ma Seok-do chases criminals using his own tactics. Part four in the series is expected to premiere next year.
