The music video for BLACKPINK's hit "Ddu-du Ddu-du" has reached 2.1 billion views, a first for a K-pop group.
The girl group's management agency YG Entertainment on July 31 said the milestone of 2.1 billion views came the day before at 4:27 p.m. Korean Standard Time, setting the record for most views of a K-pop group's music video. The mark was reached five years and a month after the release of BLACKPINK's first mini-album "Square Up" on June 15, 2018.
"Ddu-du Ddu-du" was all the rage with its addictive chorus and point choreography of raising both hands to mimic shooting a pistol. Its music video was the most viewed in K-pop worldwide in 2018.
The song topped the domestic charts and ranked 55th on the Billboard main singles chart Hot 100 and 40th on the main albums chart Billboard 200. Its number of streams on Spotify, the world's largest music streaming platform, has exceeded 600 million.
BLACKPINK's official YouTube channel is also the global leader in subscribers with 90.3 million. The group's 43 music videos on the platform each have hundreds of millions of views and the cumulative number of views on the channel is over 32.4 billion.
