An exhibition has opened in Shanghai, China, to wish for the successful hosting of the upcoming Asian Games in Hangzhou.

The Korean Cultural Center (KCC) in Shanghai on Sept. 11 said it is holding from Sept. 14 to Nov. 4 "Harmony: Exhibition on Exchanges of Korean and Chinese Folk Paintings to Wish for Successful Hosting of Hangzhou's Asian Games" at the exhibition space on the KCC building's third floor.

Held under the themes of "friendship," "harmony" and "success" of both countries, the display is designed to stimulate bilateral cultural exchange and promotion of Korean culture to the locals.

The event's 68 folk paintings comprising 25 from Korea, 17 from Hangzhou including those of farmers and others that decorated tombs, cliffs and other buildings during the Han Dynasty and 26 wooden engravings from Suzhou depict the lifestyles, customs, regional characteristics, cultures and traditions of the people of the two nations.

The event will also feature interactive events on Korean culture. A workshop on making samsaekjeon (tricolored pancakes) is slated for Sept. 14-16 as well as the interactive zone Korean Plays: Hanmadang, where visitors can play traditional games such as yunnori (traditional board game), tuho (pitch pot) and jegichagi (kicking a shuttlecock).

"We hope for the successful hosting of the upcoming Hangzhou Asian Games and for Korea and China to share friendship and continue active exchanges through Korean and Chinese culture just like this exhibition's themes," the KCC said. "Through the various interactive programs prepared at the KCC, we want to offer an opportunity to make the appeal of Korean cultural content more widely known throughout China."

The exhibition runs from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays except Mondays and Sundays.
