Netflix has offered sneak peeks at filming sets for the highly anticipated Season 2 of the smash hit series "Squid Game."
The streaming giant on Dec. 7 showed several shots of Season 2 sets somewhere in one of the two Chungcheong-do provinces in a media tour with domestic and foreign reporters. In attendance were the series' creator and director Hwang Dong-hyuk, art director Chae Kyoung-sun and Kim Ji-yeon, CEO of the drama's production company First Man Studio.
"We're filming diligently amid widespread interest and support," Hwang said. "Despite a heavy burden on our shoulders, we will reward you with a product as good as your patience."
"Please expect deeper stories and messages to unfold with new games and characters," he added in raising expectations for the upcoming season.
"I feel massive responsibility for the big love our fans gave to the first season and the high expectations many have for the second," Chae said. "Our entire art team is working hard to properly realize Director Hwang's creative vision and thematic consciousness."
The event also introduced two major sets symbolizing the hit series. The release of certain elements hinting at what to expect in the second season also sparked curiosity.
Filming for Season 2 commenced in July and runs through next year. Along with familiar cast names from the first season like Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun and Wi Ha Jun, the sequel will also feature new characters played by actors Im Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Jo Yuri and Park Sung-hoon.
