The thriller "Sleep" has won the top prize at the Gerardmer International Fantastic Film Festival in Gerardmer, France.

The festival on Jan. 28 announced that the movie by director Jason Yu won the Grand Prix award.

"Sleep" is a thriller about newlyweds Hyun-soo and Soo-jin and what happens as a result of the husband Hyun-soo's sleepwalking. The late actor Lee Sun-kyun, who rose to global stardom in director Bong Joon-ho's Oscar-winning film "Parasite," plays Hyun-soo and Jung Yu-mi, who plays the wife, is known for appearing in director Kim Do-young's "Kim Ji-young, Born 1982," a film based on the bestselling novel.

Known as a protege of Bong, Yu was invited in May last year to the Critics' Week section of the Cannes International Film Festival in France.

The Gerardmer festival marks its 31st edition this year since its launch in 1994, covering the genres of science fiction, horror and fantasy. Director Kim Jee-woon in 2004 won the Grand Prix and two other awards from the event for "A Tale of Two Sisters."

"Sleep" was released in Korea in September last year and debuts at theaters in France on Feb. 21.
