The first exhibition held in the U.S. on the Korean Provisional Government will mark the 105th March First Independence Movement Day of Korea.

The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs on Feb. 28 said the National Memorial of the Korean Provisional Government from Feb. 29 to April 12 will host "The Beginning of a Democratic Republic, Korean Provisional Government" at the Korean Cultural Center in Los Angeles.

The four-section exhibition will display relics, videos, pictures and replicas that vividly portray 27 years of effort by independence activists and the provisional government from 1919-45.

The first part shows the transitional process of the provisional government's leadership system and its efforts for national independence. The second features members of the government in exile's official return to the motherland after liberation in 1945 and the heated public response they received at a national welcoming ceremony.

The third section features the spirit of the Constitution, succession of national symbols, official holidays and commemorative days, and the process of passing down national symbols such as the country's flag Taegeukgi and national anthem. And the final shows maps and photos of historic sites in the U.S. related to the liberation movement.

"It is highly meaningful for the National Memorial of the Korean Provisional Government to hold its first exhibition in the American region two years after its inception on March 1, 2022," memorial director Kim Hui-gon said.

"We hope for a meaningful exhibition in which our brethren in the U.S. again remember and imprint in their minds the history of the Korean Provisional Government, which was central to our nation's independence movement, and the lofty consciousness and efforts of our patriotic martyrs."
