Spring has greeted the domestic art market through the large-scale events Galleries Art Fair and Art Ono.

The Galleries Art Fair, a big industry marketplace displaying major art trends at a glance, runs from April 3-7 starting with a VIP preview at Halls C and D of COEX Mall in Seoul's Gangnam-gu District.

Launched in 1979 by the Galleries Association of Korea, the event was the country's first to promote domestic works to the public and advance the nation's fine arts market.

Marking its 42nd anniversary this year, the exhibition displays about 10,000 works by some 900 artists from 156 participating galleries.

The contemporary art genres shown include painting, sculpture, media and installation under the theme "Revitalized Art Fair," which prominently features up-and-coming artists.

Later this month, Art Ono is scheduled from April 19-21 at Seoul Trade Exhibition & Convention, aka SETEC, in Gangnam-gu with over 50 participating galleries from around 20 countries including the U.S. and U.K.

Breaking from the conventional concept of a large art fair, Art Ono will display numerous works by emerging artists dubbed "rising stars" through major galleries recently attracting keen attention in Korea.

This event shows the main works from Somali-French art dealer Mariane Ibrahim, who has attracted the most global attention, and German art dealer and gallerist Esther Schipper.

The exhibition is open to the public from April 19-21.
