The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on July 23 said it will host performances and exhibitions to promote Korean arts on the occasion of the Paris Summer Olympics.


This seeks to continue the excitement of "Korea Season," a project the ministry launched in May to introduce Korean culture across France including Paris, Avignon and Nantes.


- "Jungle" by Korea National Contemporary Dance Company

Where: Theater in Paris' 13th arrondissement (district)

When: July 23-24


The company's performance has 17 of its dancers express the fierce conflict between the body's instincts and vitality through creative movements on a jungle-like stage.

- Exhibition "Decoding Korea"

Where: Grand Palais Immersif, Paris

When: July 26-Aug. 25

 
"Decoding Korea" looks at the nation's modern history from the perspectives of art, culture and history, explores Korean society through diverse angles and presents a new trend in Korean fine art.

- Special Gala of Korean National Ballet

The Korean National Ballet will host a special gala to showcase Korea's prowess in the art both through classical ballet and creative works connecting ballet and traditional Korean music.

- Exhibition "ArtPara"

Where: OECD headquarters in Paris

When: Sept. 2-11


"ArtPara" will show about 100 works by 80 painters with developmental disabilities from 30 countries to mark the Paris Summer Paralympics, plus 25 pieces by disabled Korean painter Kim Keun-tai, who won the Republic of Korea Culture and Arts Award in 2020.

During Paris Design Week from Sept. 5-14, the Korea Craft and Design Foundation will host an exhibition of Korean crafts in collaboration with Liaigre, a luxury French furniture brand, featuring 51 craft works by 16 Korean artisans. 


Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Yu In Chon said, "We have prepared diverse aspects of Korean culture ranging from performances by Korea's top national arts organizations to exhibitions of media arts and crafts and works by disabled artists, in the hope that athletes and visitors to Paris from all around the word can experience the charm of Korean arts."
