A video competition for Hallyu (Korean Wave) will be held for communities abroad to spread the diverse charms of Korea.

The K-Community Challenge 2024 will be held from Aug. 22 to Sept. 22 by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, the Korean Foundation for International Cultural Exchange and the Korea Agro-Fisheries and Food Trade Corp. (aT).

Since its launch in 2019, this festival, is a Hallyu-themed contest for international Koreaphile communities where they watch videos on Korean culture, and apply for the competition with their own video featuring a performance. The winner will be invited to Korea in November to win a chance to perform at the K-Community Festival.

This year’s competition will be held in four categories – Joseon pop, or a crossover between gugak (traditional music) and pop music, sogochum (small drum dance), taekwonmu (performing arts combining dance and taekwondo), and Hansik (Korean food).

Videos on Korean culture will feature master artists in selected areas, and K-pop acts such as SF9 and EPEX who will shoot theirs around tourist attractions like Namsan and Seonyudo parks in Seoul and the Hanok Village in Gimpo, Gyeonggi-do Province.

Any Koreaphile clubs worldwide can apply for the contest. More information about the application and competition schedule are available at its website (www.kcommunityfestival.com).
