The country's content last year topped Netflix in movies and programs not in English.


The streaming service's biannual report released on Feb. 27 said subscribers watched a combined 94 billion hours in the second half of last year, up 5% year on year.

Korean content posted high viewership of series, films and entertainment shows.


First, season two of "Squid Game," despite premiering only six days before the end of the year, was Netflix's most-watched series with 87 million views. This allowed Korea to lead Netflix in views of content not in English for the second straight year.

Other Korean hits making the list included "Officer Black Belt" (40 million views), "Uprising" (24 million), "Cross" (23 million), "Love Next Door" (20 million) and "Culinary Class Wars" (17 million).

Yonhap News quoted Netflix as pledging to continuously challenge itself with new genres and material and strive with its partner to raise the competitiveness of Korean content and its global expansion.
