The 2025 Museum Week this month will see about 260 museums and galleries across the nation welcoming visitors with a diversity of exhibitions and interactive programs.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on May 2 said it is hosting the event through the end of the month in collaboration with some 260 museums and art galleries nationwide.
Under the theme "The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities" by the International Council of Museums, this year's edition offers programs like tours connecting cultural areas with museums and galleries in each region.
The main programs include "Museum X Meet," which picks, promotes, connects and displays collections from 50 domestic museums and art galleries; "Museum X Enjoy," whose exhibits and interactive content feature the future of rapidly changing communities and museums; and "Museum X Stroll," in which participants travel to museums, art galleries and cultural attractions with expert guides.
New to the event this year is "Museum X Meet," which seeks to discover and introduce hidden stories behind displayed collections. Featured in this program are the Pony 1, Korea's first mass-produced and exported car model, from Gyeongju World Automobile Museum in Gyeongju, Gyeongsangbuk-do Province, and face-shaped earthenware from Gyeongsan Museum in Gyeongsan, Gyeongsangbuk-do.
A combined 31 museums and galleries are participating in "Museum X Enjoy," which features nine exhibitions and 17 educational and interactive programs like "Hanok, Living with Nature" from Savina Museum of Contemporary Art in Seoul’s Eunpyeong-gu District and "Jeju Pavilion Project" by Itami Jun Museum in Jeju City, Jeju Island.
"Museum X Stroll" has 25 sessions each with approximately 30 participants to sample the museums, galleries and attractions of six regions with guides: Yangpyeong-gun County and Paju, Gyeonggi-do Province; Gyeongju; Daejeon; Jeonju, Jeollabuk-do Province; and Jeju.
More information on these programs is available on the event's official website (www.museumweek.kr).
"A museum is the beginning of everything and has all the answers," Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Yu In Chon said. "I hope that everyone this week can visit, enjoy and explore museums and art galleries containing many stories of the times."
