The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on May 23 announced a five-section UNESCO World Heritage tour to run between next month and November.
Under the theme "Unlock Korea's Treasures," the program will explore hidden UNESCO World Heritage sites nationwide starting from Jeongeup, Jeollabuk-do Province, and Busan in June; Gwangju and Suwon, Gyeonggi-do Province, in September; Yeosu, Jeollanam-do Province, in October; and Pyeongchang-gun County, Gangwon-do Province, in November.
Tour members at Museongseowon in Jeongeup will learn about Korean neo-Confucianism and Korean War history in Busan, visit Namhansanseong Fortress in Gwangju and Suwonhwaseong Fortress in Suwon, and explore the night sea and mud flats in Yeosu.
In Pyeongchang-gun, they will experience kimjang, or the traditional culture of making and sharing kimchi, which is designated UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Videos of each tour will be uploaded on Korea.net's YouTube channel (@GatewayToKorea).
Since 2014, the ministry has run the program for expats every year. Participants visit UNESCO World Heritage sites and attractions in the country and create and share videos on what they saw.
The tour schedule and application to participate are available on the program's official website (www.heritageinkorea.kr).
