Spain next month will host dance performances as part of an event combining Korean tradition and modernity.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in Seoul on June 24 said the Korean Cultural Center in Madrid and the Korea Foundation for International Cultural Exchange on July 4 will present "Gestures that Connect Cultures," the signature event of the 2025 Korea Season: Spain, at Centro Danza Matadero of the cultural complex Matadero Madrid.
Korea Season is a global exchange project for spreading Korean culture. This year, it will mark the 75th anniversary of Korea's relations with Spain under the theme "Two Cultures, One Heart."
The artistic director of "Gestures that Connect Cultures" is Kim Shinah. Choi Sang Cheol Contemporary Dance Company, Hoo Dance Company and Humanstance will present "Street Dance" and other dance works combining Korean tradition and modernity.
This year's Korea Season through November features around 30 events throughout Spain including pop and classical music, literature and culture industry fairs. Content from other fields will also be presented such as the festival La Mar de Musicas (Sea of Music) in Cartagena, international book fair Liber and modern literature event Kosmopolis.
The ministry plans to use this event to further stimulate interest in Hallyu (Korean Wave) among Europe's culture and arts circles as well as promote and expand the networks of culture industry organizations.
