A festival in New York to start this week will promote popular aspects of Korean culture such as music, cinema, beauty and cosmetics, and picture books.

The Korean Cultural Center (KCC) in the Big Apple on July 8 announced its hosting of K-Culture Festa in New York from July 11 to Aug. 29 to mark the 80th anniversary of Korea's liberation.

On July 16, the KCC will present the picture book "Rice Cake House of a Tiger" by Seo Hyun and try making sotteok sotteok, or a skewer with rice cake and sausage.

On the evening of Aug. 6, the free concert "K-Music Night" will be held at Damrosch Park of Lincoln Center featuring Korean rock acts Kim Chang-wan Band, Touched and Monday Feeling.

"Beyond Liberation," a film festival from Aug. 15-29 to also commemorate the liberation anniversary, will screen classics preserved by the Korean Film Archive and recent hits like those that made the New York Times' list of "100 Best Movies of the 21st Century."

More information is on the KCC's official website (https://www.koreanculture.org).
