The annual Boryeong Mud Festival, one of the nation's most popular events for foreign visitors, will heat up the summer with a bigger variety of programs in Boryeong, Chungcheongnam-do Province.
Boryeong City Hall on July 8 said this year's festival, the 28th of its kind, will run from July 25 to Aug. 10 at Daecheon Beach and Mud Expo Plaza.
New this year is a major expansion of evening programs to continue the event's daytime energy into the night.
"Mud on the Beach," an immersive program targeting the younger generation, will feature electronic dance music, DJ shows and water gun dance parties. And generation-tailored evening performances will include a drone light show, Korean hip-hop festival and "8090 Night Show" highlighting music from the 1980s and 90s.
The lineup of interactive experiences has also been expanded to include programs using the entire body like Mud Experience Zone, Mud Mob Scene and the Steel Mud Challenge, a test of physical strength.
The experience zone centered on Mud Expo Plaza has been organized into zones like those for a general mud experience, families and a water park for kids.
The nation's top shows will also be shown including the World DJ Festival, KBS' "K-pop Super Live," M-net's "M Countdown" and TV Chosun's "Super Concert."
The host city has prepared picnic and "big mist" zones and mud cabanas to enhance visitor convenience and relaxation. To help guests beat the summer heat during the festival, each area has been equipped with an air-conditioned "cool zone."
