The soundtrack to "KPop Demon Hunters," a hit Netflix animated film about K-pop, has made a huge splash on major music charts worldwide.
Billboard on July 15 said the track "Golden" sung by the virtual girl group Huntrix topped both the Billboard Global 200 and Global Excl. US, the first time for a virtual act to hit No. 1 on a global list of the New York-based music and entertainment magazine.
Saja Boys, Huntrix's boy band rival in the film, also soared on the Billboard Global 200 with "Your Idol" (third) and "Soda Pop" (sixth), showing the movie's massive influence on both the real-world and virtual music markets.
The "KPop Demon Hunters" soundtrack was No. 2 on the main albums chart Billboard 200. The album now has eight songs on the Billboard Hot 100, the magazine's top singles rankings, with "Golden" placing sixth.
The animated musical, which follows Huntrix's efforts to protect people from demons, and its soundtrack exploded on the global scene immediately after their release on June 20.
Billboard said, "While the past couple weeks have seen major new releases from established superstars like Drake and Justin Bieber, the still-growing success of KPop Demon Hunters and its soundtrack arguably remains the most explosive story of the pop summer."
