Two domestic films have been selected to compete in the Venice Film Festival of Italy and the Toronto International Film Festival of Canada.

Director Park Chan-wook's latest film, the black comedy thriller "No Other Choice," will vie for the Golden Lion of the Venice event from next month. The movie is the first from Korea selected for the category since "Pieta" in 2012 by the late director Kim Ki-duk.

Park is now the third Korean director with a work picked for competition at all three of the world's top film festivals -- Cannes, Berlin and Venice -- since directors Kim and Hong Sang-soo.

Director Yoon Ga-eun's coming-of-age drama "The World of Love" is the first and only Korean film to compete in the competitive Platform section of the Toronto festival. Dubbed the Cannes of North America, the event is the largest of its kind in North America and considered a steppingstone for advancing to Hollywood.

The Venice festival will begin on Aug. 27 and that in Toronto on Sept. 4.
