Family Centers nationwide will offer programs to share familial bonds during the Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving) holiday.

The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family on Sept. 28 said communicative and interactive events will target diverse household types like people who live alone and multicultural families, as well as programs to improve family ties.

Programs to improve family relations include making dumplings and fried pajeon (pancakes) at Healthy Family Support Center in Busanjin-gu District of Busan; creating songpyeon (half moon-shaped rice cake) with other families at the Family Center in Eumseong-gun County, Chungcheongbuk-do Province, and making flower songpyeon with fathers at the center in Jangheung-gun County, Jeollanam-do Province.

Events for multicultural families include a songpyeon-making program at the center in Yangsan, Gyeongsangnam-do Province, and a program on Chuseok culture and making food for the holiday at that in Muan-gun County, Jeollanam-do. The center in Donghae, Gangwon-do Province, will host an event to make songpyeon and wear Hanbok (traditional clothes).

The center in the Dong-gu District of Daegu will prepare holiday food with marriage immigrants for sharing with the community.

Those who cannot visit family centers can participate online in the program "Making Songpyeon with Families" run by the center in Eumseong-gun.

The ministry's website (www.mogef.go.kr) also holds through Oct. 10 the Family Center Consonant Quiz.
