"Baby Shark Dance," the hit video featuring Baby Shark, a global cultural icon loved by all generations, has surpassed 16 billion views on YouTube.

The Pinkfong Company on Oct. 14 said that to mark the 10th anniversary of the clip, it released content analyzing the character's growth journey and strategies behind its worldwide success.

Born from a YouTube nursery rhyme series in 2015, Baby Shark is a global phenomenon that has written a new chapter in Korean content history. Starting with the video, the series is available in 25 languages and about 200 countries.

The clip surpassed 16 billion views this month to maintain its position as the world's most-viewed video on YouTube for 59 consecutive months.

Pinkfong said the feat is equivalent to everyone of the world's population of eight billion watching the video twice.

YouTube described Baby Shark as "a prime example of how creators connect with a global community and grow into cultural icons through the platform."

It also cited as the secrets behind the song's success its repetitive melody, easy-to-follow dance moves and family-friendly content.

The Baby Shark TV series and a movie version last year were nominated for three International Emmy Awards for Children and Family. The song stayed on Billboard's main singles chart Hot 100 for 20 consecutive weeks and has surpassed a cumulative billion streams on Spotify.

Gautam Anand, YouTube vice president for Asia-Pacific, said, "Baby Shark's 10-year journey is a testament to how content can connect people worldwide through YouTube and the foundation for expanding business opportunities."
