"KPop Demon Hunters," the animated blockbuster that has taken the world by storm this year, is getting a sequel.
Bloomberg News of the U.S. on Nov. 5 said Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation concluded a contract to produce "KPop Demon Hunters 2."
Both companies aim to release the sequel in 2029 but this could change depending on the production schedule. Negotiations with cast members are ongoing.
"KPop Demon Hunters" in September eclipsed 300 million cumulative views on Netflix, making it the most-watched film or TV series on the platform. The hit "Golden" from its soundtrack topped Billboard's main singles chart Hot 100 for eight weeks.
Sony Pictures planned and produced the film, which was released on Netflix in June.
The movie centers on a K-pop girl group that fights evil spirits with its music and saves the world, with actors Ahn Hyo-seop and Lee Byung-hun providing voiceovers in English.
Netflix will also hold a pop-up store tour for the film offering events and sales of official fan merchandise and other items. The event will run from Dec. 4-28 in the Seongsu-dong neighborhood of Seoul's Seongdong-gu District and later move to leading Asian hubs such as Singapore, Bangkok (Thailand), Tokyo (Japan) and Taipei (Taiwan).
