K-pop supernova BTS has been named a "guest of honor" by La Plata, Argentina's sixth-largest city where the group is slated to perform in October.

The group's management agency Big Hit Music on July 4 said the La Plata City Council two days earlier unanimously approved a motion on the measure at a regular meeting.

Under the city's ordinances, the designation is the highest official honor granted to distinguished visitors or internationally recognized figures in culture and the arts.

The council cited BTS' global cultural influence, promotion of youth rights and contributions to global cultural activity for its selection.

On Oct. 21, 23 and 24, the boy band will be the first Korean act to perform at the La Plata Stadium.
