Pianist Lee Jeongwoo has won the piano section of this year's George Enescu International Competition in Bucharest, Romania, the Seoul-based Chung Mong-Koo Foundation said on Sept. 20.

He also won on Sept. 19 five special awards at the event including the Radu Lupu Prize for the best performance of an Enescu work and the Audience Prize.

In 2024, Lee, now a student at the New England Conservatory in Boston, became the youngest winner in the senior division of the Ettlingen International Piano Competition of Germany.

Founded in 1958 to honor the eponymous Romanian composer and violinist and discover emerging musicians, the biennial Enescu event covers composition, cello, violin and piano.
