Sullacheong (Office of Patrol Guards) during the Joseon Dynasty protected Jongmyo Shrine in Seoul. The road is called Seosulla-gil because “Seo” means “west” in Korean and the pathway is west of the office.
Seosulla-gil maintains the form of an old path and contains the shrine's history and culture. But ruptures in the road and illegal parking made it difficult to walk on.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government last year repaved the road with stones and conducted landscaping so that Seosulla-gil could blend in naturally with the atmosphere of Jongmyo's wall.
