Operations on the sea route connecting Busan and Japan’s Tsushima Island, which were suspended due to COVID-19, will restart on Feb. 25.
PanStar, a group of marine logistics companies, said the high-speed passenger ship ‘Panstar Tsushima Link’ will begin trial operations from Feb. 25 on the route between Busan and Hitakatsu on Tsushima.
The ship operates once a day on Saturdays and Sundays, but the number of passengers is limited to 100 due to quarantine measures. The ship will operate only once a day and will not take on board passengers in Busan on Mondays so as to accommodate those returning from Tsushima Island.
Last December, a ferry was launched that sailed around Tsushima Island without dropping off passengers. Visitors will be able to disembark and tour the island from Feb. 25.
With the Busan-Tsushima Island route reopening, all four international passenger routes connecting Busan and Japan (Osaka, Fukuoka, Shimonoseki, Tsushima Island) will revert to their pre-COVID level.
Ferry services between Busan and Japan were completely suspended after the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak but have gradually been resumed since last year. Starting with Fukuoka last November, the Osaka and Shimonoseki routes were reopened in December. The service to Tsushima Island was delayed due to quarantine issues.
