Jeju Island is using the popularity of Hallyu (Korean Wave) to promote its appeal to tourists.
Jeju Special Self-Governing Province on May 29 announced plans to develop tours based on Korean dramas, music videos and entertainment shows filmed on the island and create related content.
For this purpose, the province is working closely with related organizations in regions such as Vietnam, Malaysia, the Middle East and Central Asia like the overseas offices of the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO).
In Hanoi, Vietnam, Jeju from May 24-26 participated in this year's Hanoi K-Tourism Road Show hosted by the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Vietnamese media covered the island's tourism photo zone at the event featuring the hit K-dramas "King the Land" and "Extraordinary Attorney Woo."
The province's tourism promotion office in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and the Jeju Tourism Organization from May 28 launched a four-day promotional tour with influencers invited from Malaysia. They will create content on the island's tourism for social media after visiting about 20 travel destinations in Jeju including places where BTS member Jimin visited.
From May 31 to June 2, Jeju will host a promotional tour jointly with the KTO's branch in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), by inviting travel product developers from key Middle Eastern countries such as the UAE and Qatar.
Byeun Durk-Seung, director general of the provincial government's Tourism & International Affairs Bureau, said, "Using Jeju's tourism resources related to Hallyu, we will discover a variety of tours and produce and promote content to captivate people worldwide and lead them to actually visit our island."
