The Chuncheon Puppet Festival will be held from Aug. 29 to Sept. 4 at the Chuncheon Puppet Theater and selected venues around the city of Chuncheon in Gangwon-do Province.
Marking its 36th year, the 2024 festival will host more than 100 performances by seven teams from abroad such as Spain, Canada and the U.K., and approximately 40 domestic teams under the theme "Hand in Hand with Puppet."
On Sept. 1, a street parade, the Puppet Carnival, will be held along a 1.2-km long route from Palho Square to Chuncheon City Hall Square with about 500 puppeteers.
Sideline events such as an art market with 40 performers from 18 puppet theater teams from Korea and overseas, forums and workshops by experts will also delight visitors. Festival-goers can also have fun in interactive events like making personal puppet key rings with puppet theater teams, and handicraft classes where they can produce their own decoration using the Korean national flower,
mugunghwa (Rose of Sharon).
A night program, the Cocobau Festival, will also host performances on various themes every day.
Launched in 1989, the Chuncheon Puppet Festival is the heart of puppet festivals in the country and one of the largest in Asia. The annual event is also one of the leading festivals of Chuncheon.
More information about the festival, including reservations and performance schedules, are available at the official website (
