The Korea Heritage Service from May 30 to June 22 will hold this year's K-Heritage Weeks featuring events such as on-site field trips, education, performing arts and exhibitions at national heritage sites nationwide.
Marking its second edition this year, the event this year has the theme "National Heritage in Daily Life." About 400 programs have been prepared based on the cultural assets of each region.
Bohyeonsa Temple in Gangneung, Gangwon-do Province, will hold an event for making that region's jang, or traditional sauces and pastes made from fermented soybeans, and experiencing Buddhist tea culture.
From Wednesdays through Sundays over the festival period, Haengjusanseong Fortress in Goyang, Gyeonggi-do Province, will teach how to cook Gawaji rice, the first type of rice cultivated on the Korean Peninsula, and serve it on lotus leaves.
A workshop on making gaegukji (crab broth), a specialty of Taean-gun County, Chungcheongnam-do Province is slated at Taean National Maritime Museum and Taean Eupseong Fortress in the county.
Daeseung Hanji Village in Wanju-gun County, Jeollabuk-do Province, will host a sampling of food and tea made from the Kazinoki (paper mulberry) tree, as well as a workshop on making Hanji (traditional paper) and related handicrafts.
The Tomb of King Suro in Gimhae, Gyeongsangbuk-do Province, will be the venue for a culinary event featuring regional specialties and a performance of the gayageum (12-string zither).
Other events celebrating national heritage throughout the country await visitors over the period.
