The Seoul Metropolitan Government will host the Hangang River Festival-Summer from July 26 to Aug. 24 amid the summer heat wave around the river flowing through the capital.

Under the theme "Passionate Vacation with Cool, Cheap Activities," the event features 18 leisure activities ranging from water sports to cultural performances and aquatic leisure.

Nanji Hangang Park from July 26-27 will host the leading program "Hangang Cinema Splash" at its water playground. Visitors can watch hit Korean films like "Sunny" on July 26 and "Welcome to Dongmakgol" the next day shown on a massive screen while on inflatable floats in the water.

At the same venue from Aug. 9-10, the concert "Hangang Musical Splash" will feature authentic jazz and folk melodies to create a romantic mood against the backdrop of the city's beautiful nightscape.

The urban water event Hangang Bus Splash will conclude the festival with performances by professional dance teams, DJs and interactive activities such as water gun games.

The Hangang Ship Race on Aug. 15 will be held to mark Liberation Day at the Jamsil underpass of Jamsil Hangang Park. Competitors will navigate the 80-m course with boats they make from materials such as tubes or bamboo to create exciting moments.

Other programs include the free outdoor movie theater of the Hangang Under the Bridge Festival at Ttukseom Hangang Park under Cheongdamdaegyo Bridge (Aug. 9), Gwangnaru Hangang Park under Cheonhodaegyo Bridge (Aug. 16) and Yeouido Hangang Park under Wonhyodaegyo Bridge (Aug. 8-23).
