The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization will jointly host the event "Celebrating the 80th Anniversary of Liberation via Tourism."
From among the nation's top 100 tourist attractions, 13 related to the national independence movement were selected for this promotion.
The 13 are Gwanghwamun Square, the site of the March First Independence Movement of 1919, in Seoul; Gwangmyeong Cave, where imperial Japan plundered natural resources, in Gwangmyeong, Gyeonggi-do Province; Gaehangjang (Open Port Area) Street, a site for Japanese residents in the early 20th century, in Incheon; Gongju Baekje Historic Site, a UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Donghak Peasant Revolution in 1894 in Gongju and the Independence Hall of Korea in Cheonan, Chungcheongnam-do; Cheongnamdae Presidential Villa, which houses a museum on the Korean Provisional Government and an exhibition of relics related to national independence, in Cheongju, Chungcheongbuk-do Province; Jeonju Hanok Village, the site of the independence movement in Jeonju and Naejangsan National Park, a Donghak site, in Sunchang-gun County, Jeollabuk-do Province .
Visitors can receive commemorative souvenir magnets at each of the 13 places on a first-come, first-served basis if they visit during Liberation Week from Aug. 11-16.
Those who share their travel plans on the Every Corner of Korea site (korean.visitkorea.or.kr) and verify their visits are entered into a drawing for a tiger doll keychain draped in the national flag Taegeukgi.
