The Accommodation Sale Festa for the second half of the year will kick off on Aug. 20 to stimulate regional economies and boost demand for domestic tourism.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on Aug. 11 announced that along with the Korea Tourism Organization, it will host the fall and "special disaster area" editions from Aug. 20 to Oct. 30 and the winter edition from Nov. 3 to Dec. 7.
The fall and winter events will offer KRW 30,000 discount coupons for lodging reservations outside the Greater Seoul area worth KRW 70,000 or more and KRW 20,000 off accommodations priced below KRW 70,000.
The special disaster areas cover 33 cities, counties and districts in eight regions like the counties of Sancheong-gun and Hadong-gun of Gyeongsangnam-do Province, two areas devastated by wildfires in March; Jeollanam-do Province and Gwangju, which suffered from an airliner crash on Dec. 29 last year; and the provinces of Gyeonggi-do and Chungcheongbuk-do, which were hit by heavy rain last month.
Stays in these regions can get KRW 50,000 off for lodging worth over KRW 70,000 and KRW 30,000 discounts for accommodations under KRW 70,000.
The discount period starts at 10 a.m. on Aug. 20 through participating online travel agencies, with a limit of one voucher per person on a first-come, first-served basis.
More information is on the event's official website (https://ktostay.visitkorea.or.kr).
