Six national tourist roads have been selected thanks to their outstanding roadside scenery and abundance of nearby tourism resources.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on Nov. 13 announced the designation of Sumbi Coastal Road (24.7 km) in the town of Gujwa-eup on Jeju Island; Jirisan Scenery Trail (59.5 km) along Jirisan Mountain in Hamyang-gun County, Gyeongsangnam-do Province; Gucheon-dong Nature Trail (12 km) in Muju-gun County, Jeollabuk-do Province; Cheong Scenic Trail (12.9 km) in Jecheon, Chungcheongbuk-do Province, Baengnisseomseomgil Trail (23 km) in Jeollanam-do Province; and Byeol Gureum-gil, aka Star Cloud Trail, (100 km) in Gangwon-do Province.

The six were selected among 35 candidates after a review conducted from August to October by an evaluation committee of private sector experts from tourism, roads, transportation, history and culture, regional planning and scenery and evaluation by the Road Policy Review Committee done this month.

As the first of kind since the launch of the tourist road system in October last year, the designation is expected to greatly stimulate regional tourism and economies.
