What do you want to eat when you visit Korea?
Korea has so many yummy foods that you wouldn’t know where to start when you're in Korea. When I visited Korea, I noticed that people don’t joke about their meals and I was always given food at the appropriate time. Honestly, people in Korea know how to treat guests.
When you visit Korea, I bet you'll be lost in thought because there are so many food options. You'll probably be confused about what to try first. There are a lot of restaurants all across the country, so finding one that fits perfectly with you won’t be an issue. When I was in Korea, I always looked forward to what we would be having because every meal felt like I was exploring something new. I was excited and I didn’t let any chance to taste a new dish pass me by.
What fascinated me the most was the dining setting. I’m not used to seeing a dining table filled with so many side dishes, and people eating from the common plate or bowl. It was a bit of a shock, but at the same time it felt good, like I was bonding with a close friend or family member.
A traditional Korean setting has many kinds of side dishes and people generally eat from the common plate or bowl.
Make sure you never visit Korea without getting to try some
samgyetang ginseng chicken soup and some fried pork belly slices.
Samgyetang ginseng chicken soup is a hot steaming delicious dish that has a small chicken stuffed with rice, ginseng and jujube inside of it. You'll have to eat a whole small chicken all by yourself. It’s a soup you can enjoy in any season, though it’s popular during the summer because it’s an "energy food," or so they say. It also fits in perfectly in the winter because it’s served very hot. It’s a soup that has a lot of contents inside, and makes you feel rejuvenated after eating it all.
Fried pork belly slices is a dish you'll keep craving, even after you have left Korea. If you're a fan of Korean TV soap operas, you'll understand the urge to eat some fried pork belly slices. The taste of the different sauces that are accompanied with the meat won’t leave your taste buds. You should also not forget to wrap the grilled, marinated meat in a lettuce or sesame leaf. This finishing truly gives a "Korean" feeling.
For me, if I get to visit Korea again, I'd eat these two dishes all over again.
