Siti MartinaDuring the 2018 Asian Games, Korea's Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee, the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation and other partners hosted the Team Korea House in Indonesia.
What is the Team Korea House? The Team Korea House hopes to boost morale among the national athletes who are participating in international sports competitions, and also aims to provide space for international sports exchanges during the Asian Games. This space provides the opportunity to share the best of Korean heritage and traditions, both ancient and modern.
The Team Korea House supported Korean athletes who were participating in the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang. The event lasted for two weeks from Aug. 18 to Sept. 2. I also came to the Team Korea House on the final day, Sunday, Sept. 2, and it coincided with the end of the 2018 Asian Games.
Visitors were able to enjoy many shows at the exhibition pavilion. Official events included an opening ceremony, a Korean Night, an athletes' night, and a group cheering session. Other events were a Korean movie screening, a concert of Korean pop music, an exhibition about traditional Hanbok attire, the Hangeul alphabet, and virtual reality technology, and there was a "Korean culture box," too, where visitors could learn more about Korean heritage and traditions.
One really interesting exhibition showed the Joseon society men and the
seonbi classical Confucian scholars, and compared it to Joseon society's women and their life in the
gyubang, the women's quarters. This was extremely interesting, because it helped to add some understanding to Korea's Joseon-era history.
Visitors to the Team Korea House can learn more about Korea's history.
