K-pop idols' fashion style and items are creating a trendy culture among K-pop fans. (blackpinkcloset)

Have you ever wanted to dress like your favorite Korean artist? Inspired to update your fashion into K-style but don’t know what brands they wear? Well I’m here to share some good news to my fellow K-POP fans! I found some Instagram & Twitter accounts dedicated to sharing the specific outfits of Korean artists like @rv_style for Red Velvet, @pledis17swager for Seventeen and a lot more. A lot of their posts have the complete ensemble, including the shoes and accessories so you’ll know where to buy them and even the prices. Some of them are affordable while some are… well it can make your wallet cry a bit.
One of the girl groups that has caught the attention of millions of people is Blackpink. They have been known for their edgy & chic style, exuding a ‘girl crush’ vibe, which is what YG Entertainment has been recognized for.
For this article, I will focus on the girl group’s dedicated fashion account ‘Blackpink Closet,’ which currently has more than 165k followers on Instagram.
The Instagram & twitter account ‘blackpinkcloset’ is a great place to learn where you can buy the exact outfits. I was able to ask Zoey, the person behind blackpinkcloset, about the reason she created the account.
“I was a new YG Entertainment fan. I already had my eyes on the agency’s trainees before Blackpink even debuted. They always had fan-taken pics. I thought to myself ‘Hey, they have great fashion sense. Why isn’t there a fashion account for them?’ So I started it just randomly.”
As of July 2018, there are two members behind the account, Zoey from Malaysia and Nica from the Philippines.
I was curious as to how hard or how fast they’re able to identify the clothes worn by the girl group. Surely it takes some time to research and find the right outfits. “For how hard some of the items of clothing are, I can say that we both just give up looking for some because of too little detail. The easier finds are usually brands like Gucci and Chanel, because of their signature use of patterns and color.”
Zoey admitted that she doesn’t do so well with figuring out Korean or Japanese brands but thankfully Nica, her partner-in-Blackpink fashion, knows them quite well and she’s grateful for that. “Different people have different strengths. I guess we complement each other quite well.”
I actually discovered ‘blackpink closet’ through popular Korean-American Youtuber Joan Kim. Joan makes various videos from make-up to fashion to even sharing great cafes on her main Youtube Channel ‘Joan Kim’. She also takes her viewers on her adventures and shows different sides of Korea on her Vlog channel ‘joanday’.
Joan did a video specifically sharing things she bought because of Blackpink. "Blackpink is currently my favorite girl group in Korea. I love their fashion sense." Joan stated in the video. “Ever since I started following them, I've been wanting more and more of what they were wearing.”
It doesn’t matter whether its costumes worn on stage or what the Blackpink members wear on their casual days, ‘blackpink closet’ has it covered. All K-POP fans have their favorites, right? So of course I had to ask Zoey and Nica which Blackpink member’s fashion style they liked best.
Zoey said she had a hard time picking a favorite since they all dress really well. “I have always loved Jennie's style! But after Blackpink debuted, I got to see more of Jisoo's style and I must say that I absolutely love hers as well.” Meanwhile Nica adores Jennie’s style. "I looove Jennie's, from her fab stage outfits to her casual and everyday clothes."
Personally I love the variety of styles in K-POP fashion, from chic to sweet, anyone can find something that can suit them. I admit, I’m also guilty of buying certain clothes because they reminded me of certain Korean artists. I remember buying rings, earrings and necklaces because of 2NE1’s playful style in the past. It’s fun to dress up while we can and K-POP artists definitely can inspire us to express ourselves.
