In January, I received a "Korea Bucket List" calendar from the Korean Culture and Information Service (KOCIS), and I have to say, it was one of the most creative calendars I've seen.

Why? Because it's not just a regular calendar that shows the date, it has a bucket list of things to do in Korea for each month of the year.

So what makes this calendar unique? At the bottom right corner of each photo in the calendar is a QR code that can be scanned with a smartphone. This will direct you to an official webpage that contains all the information that you need on that activity.

The activity I want to try this year, if I get the chance, is "Hike in the Mountains" (December activity). So I scanned the QR code and was sent to the official webpage of the KOCIS 2019 calendar, where I found a lot of information and photos on hiking in Korea as well as on cable cars, another item on my must-try list.

What I like about the thought of hiking in Korea is that the mountains are not only covered with snow but also with trees and plants, and I rarely get to see the latter two things on my home country's mountains.

Hiking isn't easy so before you go, be 100-percent sure that the place is safe and well suited for hiking. Since 70 percent of Korea is covered with mountains, hiking is one of the country's top hobbies. I thus believe that hiking in Korea is one of the safest things for me to try.

Though hiking in Korea is available throughout the year, I would like to try it exclusively in winter so I can see mountains covered in snow just as I saw them in my calendar. But that doesn't mean that hiking in spring is less beautiful; rather, it can be fascinating since the flowers will be in full bloom.
