India on July 12 experienced its first big K-pop concert given by the band Kard organized by Pinkbox Events in association with the Korean Culture Center (KCC) in Delhi.
The group performed in Delhi on July 12 and Guwahati on July 14. Hallyu in India is no joke, and this was evident from the hug zeal and enthusiasm of the crowd. Fans from far-off places like the state of Jammu and Kashmir and the capital of Telangana state, Hyderabad, attended the big event.
Kard was welcomed at Delhi International Airport by a massive crowd comprising members of the fan club Hidden Kards, who had waited for the group until late in the evening. The next day, Kard held a media event at the KCC. On why Kard is so popular as a co-ed band, group member BM replied that its music is a little different in following Moombatohn, an energetic fusion genre of house music and reggaeton originating from the American capital of Washington. He said Kard also mixes English lyrics a lot with those in Korean to connect with more people all around the world. The group has many fans in Latin America because of such uniqueness and hopes to connect with more people worldwide, he said.
"Indian crowds are always up for energetic music whether it's Bollywood grooves or Kard's beats. That’s why I think (Kard) has such a huge fan base in India," said fan Supriya Mittal, who waited outside the KCC just for a glimpse of the K-pop band.
Kard also discussed what it knows about India and its fondness for Indian food (the video has more on this).
The next day was the most anticipated by Kard's fans in India, who had waited for months. Fans unable to attend the concert took social media by storm by rooting for those who could attend to have a great time. On July 12 at 12:30 p.m., a fan signing event had started, with VIP ticketholders having lined up earlier at noon in Delhi outside Talkatora Indoor Stadium. After a fan meet and photo session, the final concert began at 5 p.m. Fans waiting to enter the stadium could be heard loud and clear, singing and dancing to songs not just by Kard, but also by Bangtan Boys (BTS), Exo, Blackpink and Twice.
"It’s not just Kard's concert, it's the first big K-pop event we're witnessing in India, and as fans from India, we wouldn't miss it for the world. K-pop isn't just music, it's an escape for me," said fan Rachit Sharma, 23.
