The spread of Hallyu fever to teenagers all over the world has led to every decade producing a new K-pop idol. Bangtan Boys aka BTS is the world's top Korean boy band and commands particular attention in Indonesia. The group's huge fan group Army shows the power of female fans who support the BTS in every way.
Army Samarinda, a fan club located in my hometown, on Aug. 25 held a huge event for BTS on the sixth anniversary of the group's debut. The event "Army With Luv" was arranged by the club and proved successful as nearly 100 member fans attended. Admission cost IDR 150,000 (USD 10.68).
The members in attendance qualified for the chance to win an official BTS tote bag, a poster and an album as door prizes, as well as a light stick. Providing the entertainment were the comedic MC Bryan, Nia and guest star D'One, a famous K-dance cover group within Army Samarinda. D'One jammed in a performance to the BTS hit "Danger, Baepsae, Boys in Luv and Idol." The audience went wild and shouted the name of the group while watching a video performance by BTS on stage. Many games such as picking up mung beans with chopsticks and chair grabbing also made for an amazing night.
Adyna, the founder of Army Samarinda, said she was really touched by the excitement of her members during this event, saying it wouldn't have been successful without them. Since its debut in 2016, the club has held many events as well as charity projects such as donations to World Wildlife Fund and the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation. Thus Army Samarinda has not only raised the fame of BTS in Indonesia, but also spread positive vibes and good things to all members.
